MOWING AND WATERING THE 2 MOST IMPORTANT THINGS YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR LAWN!!!
MOWING PRACTICES: THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT !!! FOLLOW THESE TIPS FOR A HEALTHY LAWN.You will be surprised at the results.
1. Have sharp blades and a clean mower deck.
2. Adjust your mowing height to 3-1/2-4" this may seem high but the grass roots will grow deeper in the soil providing a more heat tolerant lawn and the lawn will not require as much moisture to stay healthy. A dense lawn will also keep the weeds to a minimum. The dryer it gets the longer you should let your grass grow.
3. Mow at least once per week and do not leave wind rows of grass on the lawn, Mulch or bag heavy grass.
4. The last mowing of the year should be about 2"
5. Do a fall leaf cleanup.
6. Do a Spring dethatching
Your lawn needs about 1" of water per week to stay healthy and green. Watering should be done in the early morning or early evening hours and never during the heat of the day. A irrigation system is the most effective way of watering your lawn evenly and on a timely basis. Despite what you may hear avoid letting your lawn go dormant.
